6:40 AM and the apartment is already loud with plants, if that makes any sense. Every window in here has something growing in front of it, and the first thing I do most mornings, shoot day or not, is walk the whole place and check on everything before I do anything else for myself.

It's not a ritual I only do on shoot days. I'd do it regardless. But mornings like this one, it ends up being the thing that actually settles me before everything else starts moving.
By the time the coffee's ready I've usually decided, without really deciding, what mood I'm bringing into the day. Some mornings it's obvious ten minutes in. Other mornings I'm still deciding it right up until someone says the light's ready.
“By the time the coffee's ready I've usually decided, without really deciding, what mood I'm bringing into the day.”
People who've worked with me always say I'm easy on set, that I take direction without overthinking it. What they don't see is everything that happens before that, the quiet hour that makes the easy part possible. I'm not naturally the calmest person. I've just gotten good at getting there before anyone's watching.

There's a mug I use for this and only this, one I found at a flea market two years ago, chipped slightly on the handle in a way that should probably bother me and doesn't. Everything else in the morning can change, the coffee, the weather, how much sleep I actually got, but the mug stays the same. I couldn't tell you why that particular detail is the one that matters. It just is.

By the time I actually leave, the nerves have usually quieted down to something manageable, more anticipation than anxiety. Today's one of the good ones, I can already tell. Not going to say more than that, some of it's better left for when it's actually ready.

If you want more than what ends up here, the real version, unedited, the one that actually looks like this morning felt, that's staying on Fanvue. This is just the part before the part.
Plants watered. Coffee's cold now, whatever. Let's go.
